Gibraltar Strait: Tanger Med Traffic Halted Amid Leonardo Storm

Ships will remain docked between Spain and Morocco. Due to the strong winds and heavy swell expected, the Spanish port authority has ordered a complete suspension of sailings to Tanger Med for the entire day on Wednesday, February 4, and until Thursday, February 5, at 17:00, the estimated time conditions will ease.

This precautionary measure follows orange and red weather alerts issued along the coasts of Cadiz and Tétouan. Weather services are forecasting gusts of up to 90 km/h and waves exceeding five meters in the Strait, describing Leonardo as one of the most intense storms of the winter season.

To prevent logistical chaos around the terminals, restriction measures have been imposed. Access to the port is temporarily prohibited for heavy goods vehicles bound for Morocco in order to prevent the quays from becoming overcrowded. The APBA is also asking non-essential vehicles to avoid the port area so as not to obstruct security operations.
