Severe Storm Halts Ferry Services Between Spain and Morocco, Disrupting Mediterranean Travel

A very strong storm has been shaking the Strait of Gibraltar since Thursday, forcing the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa to cancel their rotations with Ceuta and Tangier.
The National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issued an orange alert on Friday, announcing gusts of up to 90 km/h that could reach 100 km/h on the coast. The Port Authority of Ceuta indicated that in the next few hours, waves of more than five meters high are expected in the strait. As a result, the shipping companies Baleària and FRS have canceled all their departures with Tangier and Ceuta, whose ferry terminal was left without passengers on Saturday, reports Europa Sur.
According to the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), the port of Tarifa will remain closed until further notice, and the terminals of the port of Algeciras are at a standstill. Since Friday, the Hélity company has been providing the links between Ceuta and Algeciras and Malaga. For the moment, the storm has only caused minor damage and has not caused any injuries in the eight municipalities of Campo Gibraltar, as reported by the emergency services.
The municipal authorities are calling on the population to be cautious in the face of the gusts of wind that will persist until Sunday. Civil protection recommends avoiding taking shelter in buildings under construction or in poor condition, as well as walks in coastal areas.
