A Frenchman arrested upon disembarking from a plane in Morocco

The Moroccan police arrested on Wednesday at the Casablanca airport a 38-year-old French national. The individual was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Switzerland for extortion and threats with a bladed weapon.

The arrest was carried out at the Mohammed V airport immediately after the suspect landed on an international flight. According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the alert was detected at the border crossing thanks to the consultation of Interpol’s databases.

The Swiss authorities were looking for this man for his alleged involvement in a case of extortion of funds. The alleged acts include physical threats made under the constraint of a bladed weapon, which led the Swiss justice system to request global police cooperation to locate him.

The suspect was taken into custody under the direction of the competent public prosecutor’s office to initiate the handover procedures. The Interpol office in Rabat officially informed Bern of the arrest in order to launch the extradition procedures provided for by the applicable international treaties.
