French Woman Arrested in Melilla for Smuggling Moroccan Man in Car Trunk

A French national woman was arrested in the port of Melilla while traveling with an irregular Moroccan, believed to be her brother, who was hidden in a fetal position in the spare tire compartment.
The woman was traveling in a vehicle with French registration with her husband and their two minor children. The husband was charged as a suspect, but was not arrested, according to the Civil Guard command in a press release.
The Moroccan hidden in the vehicle’s trunk was found during a routine check of vehicles destined for Almería. Noting irregularities, the civil guards decided to conduct a thorough search of the French-registered vehicle, discovering the man in a fetal position and completely motionless due to the limited space.
The man showed symptoms of numbness and joint pain from having remained in this uncomfortable position for a long time. Taken care of by the agents, he regained his normal condition without having received medical care. The driver of the vehicle was brought before the courts as the alleged perpetrator of an offense against the rights of foreign citizens.
