Spanish Resident Caught Smuggling 13 Kilos of Hashish in Ceuta Ferry Bust

A Moroccan national, legally residing in Spain, was arrested by the Civil Guard in Ceuta as he was trying to smuggle nearly 13 kilos of hashish. The MRE was caught red-handed early Thursday morning, in his car, just before boarding a ferry to Algeciras.
The discovery of the drugs was made possible thanks to the intervention of the Civil Guard’s canine units, according to a statement. During a check, the drug detection dogs signaled the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle followed, revealing hiding places scattered in various parts of the vehicle, particularly under a seat and in its backrest.
After the seizure of both the drugs and the vehicle, additional analyses are underway. These procedures will determine the precise composition and purity of the hashish, for a report intended for the justice system. Meanwhile, the suspect is in pre-trial detention, his case being aggravated by the significant quantity of drugs seized.
This is not an isolated incident, the port of Ceuta often serving as a transit point for various drug trafficking networks. Criminal organizations use this route to transport drugs from Morocco to the Iberian Peninsula.
