French Tourists Arrested in Marrakech for Alleged Counterfeit Euro Scheme

Tuesday 19 December 2023, by Said

Three French tourists, aged 29 to 30, were arrested in Marrakech on Monday for their alleged involvement in a counterfeit currency case.

The judicial police of Marrakech carried out this operation following the use of counterfeit foreign currency banknotes to settle bills in a local hotel. A security source specified that these counterfeit banknotes had drawn the attention of the authorities.

The in-depth investigations of the BNPJ led to the identification and arrest of the suspects in possession of other counterfeit banknotes. In total, 25 counterfeit euro banknotes were seized during the searches.

The three French nationals have been detained and are currently undergoing a judicial investigation. This investigation, supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office, aims to clarify the details of the case, in particular the origins of the counterfeit banknotes and any possible links with counterfeiting networks, both local and international.
