New Freight Route Links Malaga and Tanger Med Ports, Boosting Morocco-Europe Trade

The shipping company Peregar started a new regular freight connection between the ports of Malaga and Tanger Med on Monday.
This very important line aims to "contribute to the development of relations between Morocco and Europe and provide services to companies located in the area of influence of the port of Malaga," said José Moyano, the director of the Port Authority of Malaga. The ship Friedrich Russ, 153 meters long, provides this connection. It departs from the port of Malaga at 2 pm bound for Tanger Med, and returns to Malaga the next morning, reports El Estrecho Digital.
For Peregar’s administrator, Joaquin Perez-Munos Subiris, this maritime line "responds to a historical desire to connect North Africa to Southern Europe and is intended to be a complementary port to Algeciras, to address the congestion problems recorded in the Strait of Gibraltar." Specifically, it will optimize operations, reduce transit times and, in the long run, help revitalize the region’s economy.
This new line will allow the transport of goods from the textile, automotive and food sectors. But in the medium term, passenger transport will be integrated, it is specified. This connection "gives security to maritime transport logistics agents because they know that there is another line available to them to carry out import-export operations," said Natalia Sanchez, vice-president of the Confederation of Businessmen of Malaga.
