New Motril-Tanger Med Shipping Route Boosts Trade Between Spain and Morocco

The port of Motril (Granada) organized an information session for Spanish and Moroccan businessmen to present its infrastructure and the advantages of its regular connection with the port of Tanger Med, operated by the shipping company Balearia.
Since the launch of this shipping line last November, "more than 80,000 tons of goods have been transported in more than 3,000 trucks," said the president of the Port Authority, José Garcia Fuentes, in a note, specifying that "the port of Motril, due to its geostrategic location, is called to become the largest port in eastern Andalusia."
For the official, the port of Tanger Med, "the main port of the African continent," "offers many entrepreneurial opportunities and the establishment of trade agreements with its business community," stressing that the port of Motril, for its part, has "unique connectivity characteristics that make it a multi-functional infrastructure for project cargoes, liquid and solid bulks, passengers and general merchandise."
It is the shipping company Balearia that operates the link between the ports of Motril and Tanger Med. "It is a key line that allows us to structure our service offering between Morocco, Spain and Europe," assures its CEO, Georges Bassoul, announcing "the reactivation of commercial lines in summer, at the end of Ramadan, in order to promote passenger traffic between the two countries."
The Director of Import and Export Operations at Tanger Med, Idriss Arabi, for his part, stressed the importance of this line which allows "to guarantee the development of trade between Morocco and Spain in sectors such as the automotive, aeronautics and textile industries." "Due to its strategic position in the Mediterranean and its logistics, the port of Motril is able to meet the demand for additional transport," he added.
