Balearia’s Motril-Tanger Med Ferry Route Sees Surge in Freight Traffic

In one year, Balearia has strengthened the regular connection between the port of Motril and that of Tanger Med. During this period, the shipping company transported nearly 400,000 tons of goods on board 14,700 trucks.
After one year of activity, the Motril-Tanger Med link operated by Balearia represents 17% of the total traffic of the port of Motril, reports Ideal. "Keys such as the safety and trust of our customers have made this maritime line, one year after its commissioning, a unique logistics opportunity with North Africa and, in particular, with Morocco, the engine of logistics and economic development for its own territory and Europe," said José García Fuentes, the president of the Port Authority.
For García Fuentes, "this line is an example of growth and development of the port of Motril" which benefits from its "strategic and privileged geographical position", which offers freight opportunities, reducing transport and logistics costs and ensuring the sustainable and efficient movement of goods and people.
The port of Motril currently has the largest number of Ro-Pax maritime links with Morocco among Spanish ports. Connections operate to Al Hoceima, Nador and Tanger-Med. The Motril-Tanger Med link is Balearia’s second from the port of Motril, after the one with Melilla. The shipping company operates three weekly rotations with the autonomous city.
