Fraudster Posing as Mayor Arrested in Laâyoune for Scamming Entrepreneurs

The elements of the judicial police of Laâyoune succeeded in arresting a 32-year-old man who was posing as the president of a municipal council in the southern province to defraud entrepreneurs. The investigations continue to dismantle the gang of criminals of which he seems to be the mastermind.
It was based on the information provided by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) that the judicial police of Laâyoune were able to arrest the man who usurped the title of municipal council president for the purposes of fraud, following the arrest of one of his accomplices who serves as an intermediary, on January 3, reports Al Akhbar. This repeat offender was at the head of a gang of criminals.

Among his victims, several entrepreneurs, merchants and businessmen in the Laâyoune region from whom the gang extorted large sums of money. The fake municipal council president made his victims believe that important contracts would be awarded to them as part of the implementation of projects planned in "his municipality". Sometimes, he put one of his accomplices - an intermediary - in contact with them and a bank account number to make the money transfers.
For now, the elements of the judicial police of Laâyoune are continuing the investigations to arrest other individuals belonging to this gang of criminals.
