Former Spanish Defense Minister: Sahara Conflict Solution Doesn’t Include Referendum

The former Minister of Defense and former President of Congress stressed, during his intervention at the Ceuta Economic Forum, the need to maintain good neighborly relations with Morocco and to resolve the Sahara conflict, which, according to him, does not go through a referendum.
José Bono declared on the occasion that the future of Ceuta depends on the ability of all the actors in political and social life to "overcome the inherited enmities and transform the borders into solutions", thus emphasizing the need to maintain good neighborly relations with Morocco. Ceuta is "a crossroads of cultures, peoples and powers, whose history has not been written without conflicts and in which coexistence is, nevertheless, a fundamental value, he added.

The former Minister of Defense also spoke about the Sahara issue, the resolution of which, according to him, does not go through a referendum. José Bono rather considers the Moroccan solution of autonomy for the Sahara as serious. This is why he has called on the Spanish government to get involved in resolving this conflict.
