Spain Flexes Military Muscle Near Moroccan Border, Reinforcing Ceuta’s Defense

Spain continues to send a deterrent message to Morocco, which claims sovereignty over Ceuta.
The Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group of the Mixed Artillery Regiment No. 30 (RAMIX 30), based in Ceuta and integrated into the General Command of Ceuta (COMGECEU), has deployed the Oerlikon 35/90 anti-aircraft guns, the MISTRAL low-altitude portable missile system, and organized military maneuvers in areas near the Moroccan border. These exercises aim to improve operational capabilities, in terms of tactics, techniques, and procedures during air-mobile operations, reports El Debate.
These activities also allow the Spanish Armed Forces to maintain a high level of readiness. The deployment of helicopters and the execution of military maneuvers in areas near the Moroccan border "send a clear message of deterrence and reinforce Spain’s defensive posture in its territories in North Africa," it is believed. The geopolitical situation of Ceuta obliges. It is a city whose sovereignty is claimed by Morocco.
These military exercises are part of the Annual Preparation Program aimed at increasing the operational capabilities of the Army units in Ceuta, Melilla, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands, as well as the Presence, Surveillance, and Deterrence Operations that the Army carries out permanently in Ceuta and Melilla, in order to protect the airspace and guarantee the security of Ceuta and Spain.
