Former Spanish Foreign Minister Calls Polisario Leader’s Reception a "Mistake"

Josep Piqué, former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that the reception of the Polisario leader, Brahim Ghali under a false identity is "a mistake" that Spain "must rectify as soon as possible".
Spain’s decision "has undoubtedly been a mistake that must be rectified as soon as possible," Josep Piqué said in an op-ed published by Política Exterior. The former Spanish Foreign Minister noted that this attitude "has been added to the public and provocative position of one of the parties in the Spanish governing coalition" on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
"As military chief of the Polisario, the so-called Brahim Ghali has broken the ceasefire in force for 30 years," recalled the former Spanish official. He will add that the background of the head of the separatists, prosecuted for serious crimes of terrorism and genocide, is known to all.
In another register, Josep Piqué spoke about the role Morocco plays on the international scene and its diplomatic successes on the African continent. "Morocco’s geopolitical importance has continued to grow thanks to its internal stability, its foreign policy and its visible economic progress," he noted.
