Former PM Benkirane Elected PJD Secretary General After Party’s Electoral Defeat

At the end of the extraordinary congress held in Bouznika on Saturday, former Prime Minister, AbdeliIlah Benkirane was elected to the position of Secretary General of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), succeeding Saâdeddine El Othmani who resigned after the electoral rout of the political formation.
5 years later, AbdeliIlah Benkirane regains his seat as Secretary General of the PJD. It is with 1112 votes against 231 for Abdelaziz Al Oâmari and 15 votes for Abdellah Bouano that the former head of government won the election on Saturday, October 30, 2021. "I am not Messi, but I will do my best. I did not want such a day to come without me being by your side," declared the new leader of the Islamist party by videoconference. He did not participate in the work of the congress but announced that he would mark the election of the members of the new General Secretariat scheduled for this Sunday, October 31, with his presence.
"I could not work alone and close the door in front of my brothers. I am the Secretary General of all the members of the party, and the value of the political party is not calculated on the basis of the number of its representatives in Parliament," added Benkirane, stressing that the PJD cannot say "yes" to everything and that its relationship with the monarchical institution is based on sincerity.
