A flight from Marrakech was due to land in Perpignan but ended up in Spain
Passengers on the Ryanair flight from Marrakech to Perpignan arrived in Spain on Friday, September 25. As it approached Perpignan, their plane had to abort its landing due to wind shear before landing in Girona. They were then due to travel by bus to their original destination.
Flight FR1357 took off from Marrakech at 9:02 a.m. and was due to land in Perpignan at 1:35 p.m. The aircraft ultimately landed at Girona-Costa Brava Airport at 2:09 p.m., reports L’Indépendant.
According to Perpignan Airport management, the pilot followed procedure by aborting the landing during the approach. The cause was wind shear, meaning a sudden change in wind speed or direction. This phenomenon can occur even when the wind does not seem particularly strong at ground level.
The airport says that such diversions are unusual, but that aborting a landing is a standard safety procedure in these circumstances.
Passengers were due to be transported by bus from Girona to Perpignan during the day.
