Khliî (dried meat) made from donkey and mule meat. This is the discovery made by the judicial police of Fez at a butcher’s shop in the city. Arrested, the suspect admitted the facts. The police opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this case.
A dishonest butcher in Fez would have the habit of offering his customers khliî (dried meat) prepared with donkey and mule meat, reports the daily Assabah. Denounced by local residents, he was placed under surveillance by the judicial police who then caught him in the act. Subjected to questioning, he confessed the facts.
The search of his butcher’s shop, carried out by the police, made it possible to seize a mule about to be slaughtered and quantities of khliî, of which samples were taken to be analyzed in the laboratory of the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA).
The suspect, who has a history of clandestine slaughter, will be prosecuted again for the same facts, and for fraud in the preparation of a product and the sale of products harmful to the health of the consumer.
