Drunk Truck Driver Crashes in Rabat, Damaging 12 Cars; Investigation Launched

A 37-year-old truck driver is the subject of an investigation opened by the Rabat police prefecture. While he was intoxicated, the man caused a traffic accident that caused significant damage.

The person concerned was at the wheel of a truck transporting alcoholic beverages in Hay Nahda in the city of Rabat, indicates the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). The driver, in an advanced state of intoxication, lost control of his vehicle which overturned on the side of the road, causing significant material damage to 12 parked passenger cars.

The police intervention made it possible to arrest the driver and 12 other individuals present at the scene, including 10 for violation of the state of health emergency, and two for their alleged involvement in the theft of part of the truck’s cargo, specifies the DGSN in a press release.

The defendant was placed in custody pending the investigation which will have to determine all the criminal acts attributed to him, especially the reasons that explain why he took the wheel while intoxicated. As for the other individuals arrested for violating the state of health emergency, they are subject to judicial investigation procedures, in order to determine all the offenses and criminal acts attributed to them.
