Domestic Worker’s Brutal Act Shocks Rabat: 30-Year Sentence for Centenarian’s Murder

The facts are chilling. A few months ago, a 40-year-old domestic worker killed and mutilated her 104-year-old employer in the working-class neighborhood of Youssoufia in Rabat. Alerted, the police arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the old man, lying in a pool of blood, reports Al Akhbar. Assisted by the scientific police, the law enforcement officers conducted the initial observations before transferring the body to the morgue for an autopsy. An investigation was opened, which revealed that the deceased’s housekeeper had violently struck him on the head with a stick before mutilating him. The autopsy confirmed a death by head trauma, followed by post-mortem mutilation.

The domestic worker was arrested and questioned by the elements of the Rabat police prefecture. According to the explanations she provided to the investigators, she would have acted in a fit of anger after her employer had tried to sexually assault her. According to her, she would have felt in danger, would have seized a stick to defend herself, before striking her employer until he lost consciousness. The public prosecutor’s office ordered the incarceration of the quadragenarian and her referral to the Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance at the Court of Appeal of Rabat for premeditated murder and acts of barbarity.

On Monday, the accused was sentenced to 30 years in criminal confinement for premeditated murder, body mutilation, acts of barbarity and participation in adultery. In the eyes of the court, the violence exerted on this dependent old man and the circumstances of the mutilation cannot be justified by self-defense alone.
