Prison Death Sparks Controversy: Drug Lord’s Family Demands Answers

Drug baron Mohamed Hamdoun is no more. Incarcerated at the local Sidi Moussa prison, he passed away on Wednesday. An ambulance had taken him to the emergency room of the provincial Mohammed V Hospital. But the drug baron died on the spot. According to the initial findings, a heart attack was the cause of his death. His family does not believe it. They have requested that an autopsy be performed by three independent forensic doctors. The Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of El Jadida has granted this request. He ordered the transfer of the body to the Er-Rahma morgue in Casablanca for a thorough examination. The prisoner was serving a ten-year sentence for international drug trafficking.

Mohamed Hamdoun was born in 1984 in Zaouia Oulad Si Hamdoun, in the rural commune of Ghnadra, near Zemamra. He was leading a peaceful life before turning to crime, reports Assabah. At that time, he had been sentenced to eight months in prison for a case of bounced checks. It was in prison that he discovered the drug world after befriending other inmates. Upon his release, he joined an international drug trafficking network and became one of the main organizers in El Jadida, until his arrest and conviction to ten years in prison. He first served four years at the Moul El Bergui penitentiary in Safi before being transferred, just two months ago, to the Sidi Moussa prison.

His death plunges his family, relatives, and friends into consternation and revolt. They are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
