Delta Variant Poised to Dominate in Morocco, Experts Warn

The Delta variant, known to be highly contagious, is present on the national territory. "It will become dominant in a few weeks," according to the director of the Biotechnology Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Rabat, Azeddine Ibrahimi.
On his Facebook page, the expert paints a worrying diagnosis of the evolution of Covid-19 with its different variants on Moroccan territory, adding that it is time to change the communication strategy on this virus that risks plunging the kingdom back into crisis.
Stressing that the alpha variant (British) has been present in Morocco since January 2020, he indicates that the Delta variant (Indian variant) has arrived in Morocco and "will become dominant in a few weeks."
To this end, he calls for this new variant to be included "in the decision-making equation, as it spreads 60% faster than the Alpha variant." The professor specified that infections will inevitably increase, assuring that "all vaccines protect against the Delta mutant." It is therefore a race against time to vaccinate as many people as possible.
Who says the presence of worrying variants on the territory, says rapid transmission, he explains. We are seeing a considerable relaxation of barrier measures. "The observation is alarming: as soon as there is an easing, the health measures are no longer respected. Unfortunately, the population deduces that we have won the battle, when it is completely false. We are still in a vulnerable phase," he warns.
