Daesh-Linked Cell Arrested in Casablanca Policeman's Murder, BCIJ Reveals

A few days after the assassination of a policeman and the arrest of three individuals affiliated with Daesh, the director of the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), Cherkaoui Habboub, provided, during a press conference, more details on this terrorist cell and the criminal plan established and implemented for the murder of the policeman.

During this press conference, Cherkaoui Habboub stated that several elements such as the method of execution of the criminal act, the method of mutilation of the policeman’s body, the fact that his weapon and handcuffs were stolen, led the investigators on the terrorist trail. According to the BCIJ chief, "There was so much data and evidence that confirmed from the outset that we were facing an organized criminal act committed by at least more than two people."

With this data in their possession and after analyzing the samples and traces at the crime scene, and retracing the victim’s car journey, the investigators were able to apprehend the first suspect in Casablanca, then the second in Sidi Harazem, and the third in Casablanca during another operation. During their interrogation, the suspects "announced that they had recently pledged allegiance to the alleged emir of Daesh and admitted that they were planning to participate in a local terrorist project with the aim of seriously undermining public order," said the BCIJ chief.

Aged 31, 37 and 50, the three accused were planning to join the terrorist organization in the Sahel countries, but due to lack of funding, they decided to commit individual criminal acts before ending up with bank robberies to finance a major attack. While saluting the cooperation of citizens, Cherkaoui Habboub encourages them to continue in this direction to prevent such tragedies.
