ISIS-Linked Suspect in Moroccan Police Killing Dies by Suicide in Prison

A Moroccan jihadist inmate committed suicide in his cell at the Salé prison. This inmate, presumed to be affiliated with the Islamic State group, had been arrested on March 15 with two other individuals and all three are suspected of having assassinated a policeman whose charred body was found in early March near Casablanca.
The three men, who were in pre-trial detention, had pledged allegiance to ISIS and were determined to engage in a terrorist project by killing a policeman, according to the Moroccan authorities.
The inmate committed suicide on Wednesday in his cell, the prison administration said. The competent prosecutor’s office and the inmate’s family have been informed of the situation, it is specified.
The investigation has been entrusted to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation, in charge of the fight against terrorism.
Another Moroccan inmate, sentenced to death for the double murder of two Scandinavian tourists in 2018, committed suicide on February 28 in his cell at the Oujda prison.
