Cyclist Killed in Casablanca Tram Collision, Authorities Urge Safety Compliance

A cyclist was killed on Thursday after being hit by a tramway in Casablanca, the tramway management company, RATP Dev, reports.
The causes of the accident are still rather vague, but according to the press release, the tragedy occurred when "the tram had just left the station and was crossing the intersection at low speed, but the cyclist did not stop at the passage of the tram". The victim succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the hospital.
Once again, the company emphasizes "the importance of respecting the rules of the highway code and road signs" by all road users (motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians) and the need to exercise great caution "around the tramway platforms".
The last tramway accident dates back to last December when a truck arriving at high speed violently collided with a tramway at the "Résistance" intersection. The driver as well as the six passengers on board had been slightly injured and then quickly taken care of by the emergency services and transferred to the hospital.
