Casablanca Tramway Accidents Surge 41% Since 2015, Report Shows

The company responsible for the operation and maintenance of the tramway in the metropolis, "RATP Dev Casablanca", recorded 141 cases of accidents involving the tramway for the year 2018. This represents a 41% increase compared to 2015, when 100 cases of accidents were recorded.
If we consider the figures put forward by the "RATP Dev Casablanca" company, the accidents are experiencing a significant 31% decrease compared to 2013, the year the tramway was put into service.
On another note, the same structure indicates that serious bodily accidents have decreased by 4.5% in 2018. Furthermore, light vehicle drivers and motorcyclists remain the ones who cause the most accidents, with an increase in the number of accidents of 28% and 60% respectively. As for pedestrians and taxis, they recorded respective decreases of 42% and 73% in the number of accidents compared to 2017.
Moreover, the same source states that all of these accidents are related to "non-compliance with the highway code" (red light or stop sign not respected), "a decrease in vigilance" (crossing the tramway track without looking) as well as "dangerous behavior" (sudden change of direction).
