Ceuta Tightens Border Controls on Moroccan Construction Materials to Combat Smuggling

Since Wednesday, January 29, construction materials from Morocco are subject to control at the Ceuta border crossing. This is the decision made by the government of the autonomous city.
It is in a press release, relayed by the Spanish press agency (EFE), that the government of Ceuta announces this new measure which intervenes following a decision of the chamber of commerce, and which aims to fight against smuggling. The objective is primarily fiscal since it will make it possible to collect the tax on production, services and imports (IPSI).
In Melilla as in Ceuta, the value added tax (VAT) does not exist. The two cities have a special tax regime, characterized by the application of the IPSI instead of the VAT.
According to the same source, with this measure, the government also wants to ensure that these products comply with European quality standards.
