Casablanca Residents Outraged by Soaring Parking Fees, Unauthorized Operators

Excessive prices in parking lots anger Casablancans. Parking lot operators and car guards dictate their law, in violation of the rates set by the city council.
In various neighborhoods of Casablanca, car guards, sometimes operating without authorization, dictate their laws to motorists, reports Alyaoum24.com.
According to Fatima Zahra Boughanbour, a human rights activist in Casablanca, the price of parking spaces sometimes costs more than 10 dirhams, especially those installed near the Ain Diab beach. This is in violation of the parking rates set by the city council at 3 dirhams during the day for cars, 5 dirhams for buses and 2 dirhams for motorcycles, and double the price at night, regardless of the duration of the stay.
In a recent statement, Mohamed Bouarrahim, vice-president of the Casablanca commune, in charge of urban transport, recalled the two types of parking spaces within the city. These are the parking spaces managed by the "Casa aménagement" company at a price of 2 dirhams per hour and the other parking lots respecting the rates set by the authority.
Mohamed Bouarrahim invited users to file complaints with the administrative police services in case of overcharging by parking lot operators.
