Marrakech Parking Attendants Protest New City-Wide Price Regulations

The recent decision of the Marrakech municipal council does not meet with unanimous approval in the ranks of parking attendants. Dissatisfied with this decision, they believe that the new pricing does not take into account their often high costs.

To put an end to the anarchy observed in the city’s car parks, the local authorities have set parking prices at 2 DH, per day for cars against 4, and 1.5 DH against 3 at night for motorcycles. If this harmonization of prices relieves the users of these car parks, it has aroused the ire of the car and motorcycle attendants of the city, recalls Le360.

For Abdelhadi, a car park attendant in Guéliz, these new rates are not respected by users while the rental of the premises is expensive. Some believe that these rates are insufficient when cars have to park for a day. "For us, it’s not profitable," says Ahmed, another car park attendant.

As for the users, this regulation will allow them to pay a fixed price each time. "In some neighborhoods of the city, the attendants force us to pay 10 dirhams for a stop of a few minutes," laments a motorist.
