Casablanca Region Faces 4-Week Lockdown as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Starting this Sunday, the Greater Casablanca, which includes the prefectures of Casablanca and Mohammedia and the provinces of Nouaceur, and Médiouna not to mention the provinces of Berrechid and Benslimane, will have to comply with a series of very strict measures from the government. In a statement, the government specified that these measures are taken following the recommendations of the Scientific and Technical Commission. This includes the ban on any form of night travel between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., except for health and professional reasons. The obligation to have an exceptional travel authorization to the aforementioned prefectures and provinces issued by the competent local authorities is also prominently featured. There is also the closure of neighborhood sports fields and parks, adds the same source. The closure at 8:00 p.m. of restaurants and cafes, as well as all shops and large shopping centers. In addition, there is the suspension of bus and tramway public transport movements at 9:00 p.m. It should also be noted that the closure of neighborhood markets at 3:00 p.m., while remote work in cases that allow it is encouraged.

Similarly, all other preventive distancing measures taken previously will remain in effect. For the record, this includes the closure of hammams and gyms and the ban on gatherings of more than 10 people.
