Casablanca Police Officer Arrested in Kidnapping and Ransom Plot

The elements of the judicial police of the Bernoussi security district in Casablanca proceeded on Friday, September 3, to the arrest of two individuals, including a police officer working at the Moulay Rachid security district in the same city. They would be involved in a case of kidnapping and sequestration associated with a ransom demand.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that the services of the Casablanca police prefecture had received, on Friday morning, a complaint from a merchant at the wholesale market stating that his brother had been kidnapped and that he had received a series of telephone calls from the alleged kidnappers asking him to provide a sum of 300,000 dirhams as ransom in exchange for the release of his brother.
The intensive searches and investigations carried out following this complaint made it possible to locate the alleged victim inside a car in the Lahraouyine area, while the two suspects were arrested on the spot and the vehicle used in this crime as well as the wireless communication devices similar to those used by the security services were seized, the same source specifies.
The preliminary data from the investigation indicate the involvement of the two suspects in this crime due to financial disputes with the alleged victim, whose identification operation revealed that he is wanted nationwide in several cases of fraud and issuance of bad checks, the DGSN notes.
Pending the determination of the true ins and outs of the commission of this crime and the investigation with the alleged victim on the acts of fraud and issuance of bad checks for which he is the subject of search warrants, the two accused and the alleged victim were placed in custody.
