Casablanca Expands Public Transit: New Tram Lines and Bus Rapid Transit Sections Underway

The city of Casablanca will soon have new sections for the Casabusway (BHNS) lines, as well as new tram lines. The announcement of the opening of these construction sites was made by Casa Transport, which promises to deliver the Casabusway project by mid-2022 and the tram project by the end of 2023.

These works concern 5 new sections for the BW1 (12.5 km) and BW2 (12 km) bus lines, as well as 7 new sections for the T3 (14 km) and T4 (12 km) tram lines, reports L’Economiste, specifying that the work on the busway project launched in December last year will last an average of 6 months on each section. These are infrastructure realizations, platform installations of systems and energy equipment.

Launched in February 2021, the work on the platform, laying of the track, installation of systems and energy equipment will continue on average 8 months on each section of the construction sites.

According to Casa Transport, "this stage of the project will be followed by other stages of facade-to-facade development, testing of rolling stock and white runs under real traffic conditions".

Zone 1: Bd El Qods between avenue Boulemane and bd Mohammed VI
Zone 2: Bd Moulay Abdellah Cherif between the Sidi Abderrahmane intersection and the intersection with T1
Zone 3: Provincial road RP3014 Errahma sector between the Petromin intersection and the South-West ring road (East Roundabout Oulfa side)
Zone 4: Bd Oum Errabia between the bd Oued Laou intersection and the bd Oued Sebou intersection
Zone 5: Bd El Qods between the bd de la Mecque intersection and the banks intersection

What about the 7 new sections of lines 3 and 4 of the tram?

Zone 1: Bd Mohammed VI between bd la Résistance and Rue Ifni
Zone 2: Bd Mohammed VI between bds El Fida and Capitaine Driss El Messfioui
Zone 3: Bd Idriss el Harti between bd Al Jaoulane and avenue 10 mars 1982
Zone 4: Av. Abdelkader Essahraoui between bd Idriss El Allam and avenue 10 mars 1982
Zone 5: Av. 10 mars 1982 between av. Abdelkader Essahraoui and rue 1Bis
Zone 6: Av. des Forces Auxiliaires between bds du Nil and Idriss El Allam
Zone 7: Bd Oqba Ibnou Nafiaa from bd Mohammed Jamal Eddora to the T4 terminus at bd Oqba

At this stage, the boulevards are still open to traffic, the media points out.
