Casablanca Cracks Down on Illegal Beach Rentals, Urges Tourists to Report Scams

To limit the anarchy of parasol renters on the beaches of Casablanca during the summer, the city authorities have made a point of reminding that any occupation of public space on the beaches is subject to prior authorization, inviting vacationers to report any offenders.

Access to 80% of the sandy surface at beach level is free and open, the Casablanca city authorities insisted, warning against the illegal exploitation of these spaces by parasol renters. The municipal council has invited vacationers to report to its competent services any person who demands amounts from them before enjoying the facilities on the beaches.

The city authorities specified that 20% of the sandy surface of the beaches are equipped with parasols, chairs and tables for rental, in accordance with the national regulations in force on beach management. For the summer season starting July 1, the municipality has set up play and sports areas on the beaches, particularly those of Lalla Meryem and Ain Diab, in order to attract more tourists.

Nearly 6,000 agents have been mobilized to ensure the cleaning of the city during the summer season. 100 agents and 100 trash cans have been deployed on the Ain Diab beaches for waste collection and beach maintenance to keep them clean throughout the summer.
