Moroccan Beach Cleanup Crews Battle Summer Tourist Waste in Casablanca

The management of waste on Moroccan beaches remains a recurring problem faced by local authorities every summer season.
The accumulation of waste on the beach of Aïn Diab, one of the most frequented in Casablanca in summer, is giving a hard time to the cleaning teams. After spending good times on this often crowded beach on weekends, vacationers leave behind significant amounts of waste, making the task difficult for the cleaning teams who strive to keep the beach clean on a daily basis.
Despite the efforts made, the problem persists. "We start our day very early to collect the scattered waste on the beach, and sometimes we find ourselves forced to work for long hours because of the density of the waste," laments a worker in a video that went viral on social media. And he adds: "If vacationers do not cooperate to keep the beach clean, it will be very difficult for us to carry out our tasks effectively."
Many local associations have expressed their outrage at the irresponsible behavior of vacationers, which has harmful consequences on the environment and the marine ecosystem due to plastic waste. To address this situation, some activists have initiated awareness campaigns among vacationers to encourage them to adopt more responsible behaviors.
Similarly, cleanliness campaigns have also been organized by young people who have proceeded to collect waste on the beaches. All these actions must continue in order to hope for a change in the mentality and behavior of vacationers in the long run. The goal is to keep Moroccan beaches always clean and attractive.
