Sewage Pollution Threatens Popular Tangier Beach, Sparks Health and Environmental Concerns

Very popular with vacationers, the Merkala beach in Tangier is threatened by sewage pollution. An ecological disaster that residents and tourists, including Moroccans living abroad, are calling to be brought under control.
The pollution of the beach’s waters is caused by the discharge of sewage directly into the sea through a canal. This situation causes serious damage to the marine ecosystem and can lead to the spread of skin diseases or respiratory infections among vacationers, reports Ashkayn.
Faced with the situation, many citizens and tourists have called on the competent authorities to take urgent measures to find a viable solution to this environmental problem that tarnishes the image and reputation of the city of Tangier, and to ensure the safety of citizens and the many tourists who enjoy this beach during the summer season.
