Casablanca's New Bus Rapid Transit System Set to Launch After Delays

The busway, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), will soon start its activities in Casablanca, a senior official recently announced.

Eagerly awaited by the people of Casablanca, the busway will be officially launched in the coming weeks, said Moulay Ahmed Afilal, vice-president of the Casablanca commune, to the newspaper Assahra Al Maghribia, quoted by Le Matin, denying rumors of the suspension of this project. "Everything that has been said about this is false," he affirmed, however acknowledging a delay in the official launch of the two CasaBusway lines, initially scheduled for last July.

The Casablanca Transport company, in coordination with the local authorities, will announce the effective date of the launch of the Busway, added the vice-president of the commune. "The new busway is a very high-level and very good quality bus. It will facilitate the daily life of passengers. It is an anti-pollution bus (diesel, E6 ecological)," Nabila Rmili, the mayor of Casablanca, said in June 2022, during the ceremony to present this project.

The city has planned to acquire 40 busways with a capacity of 168 passengers per bus for an amount of 1.875 billion dirhams. Two BW1 and BW2 lines will be launched. The first will connect the Salmia district to Lissasfa via the Al Laymoun district and the Al Qods, Mohammed VI, Moqdad Lahrizi and Al Joulane boulevards. It will offer two connection points with the Casatramway T1 and T3 lines under construction.

As for the second, it will connect the Errahma district to the Oulmès roundabout located on the Gandhi boulevard with the Moulay Touhami and Yacoub Al Mansour boulevards. It will have a connection point with the T2 tramway line, Place Financière station. In total, 300,000 Casablancans will benefit from the two CasaBusway lines.
