In Casablanca, the summer season is starting under close watch. As temperatures drive many residents toward the sea, the beaches of Aïn Diab, Aïn Sebaâ, Nahla, Tamaris, Mohammedia and Sidi Rahal are already experiencing heavy crowds.

But local authorities want to avoid scenes that have become common on several beaches: large stretches of sand occupied by umbrellas, chairs and tables offered for rent, sometimes imposed on families who simply came to enjoy the sea.

According to Hespress, control campaigns have been intensified on several beaches, based on instructions from the Casablanca-Settat regional authority. The objective is to end illegal occupation of the maritime public domain and guarantee free access to beaches for citizens.

Free beaches reclaim their rights

Operations have already been conducted to free beach areas occupied by equipment installed haphazardly. Faced with controls, some umbrella and chair operators reportedly fled for fear of having their equipment seized.

Authorities are also targeting car and motorcycle attendants stationed near beaches. These operators often imposed fees on motorists before they could even access the coast, a practice regularly denounced by beachgoers.

The measure is well-received by many vacationers, who see these operations as a way to reclaim public space long monopolized. For families, the issue is straightforward: being able to settle freely on the sand without paying for a spot, an umbrella or imposed parking.
