Burnley Star Anass Zaroury Reveals Why He Chose Morocco Over Belgium

Moroccan international Anass Zaroury is one of the players who opted for Moroccan sports nationality shortly before the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The player’s decision was surprising, especially since he was expected to play for the Red Devils.
In an interview with Eleven Sports, the Burnley player returned to the reasons that led him to choose Morocco over Belgium. Capped seven times with the Red Devils’ U21 team, no one thought Anass Zaroury would turn his back on Belgium. And yet.
But for the 22-year-old player, there are choices that cannot be explained and that are spontaneous. "Personally, I’ve always wanted to play for Morocco. I was launched with Belgium, but once you reach the A team, you have to make the choice of the heart, and mine was to play for Morocco. I of course respect the whole journey with Belgium, my coaches, my teammates," said the player.
However, the Moroccan winger from Burnley did not think he would make the choice of his sports nationality so soon, let alone participate in the World Cup even though he only played the third-place match. "I knew that if I did well in the club, anything was possible. I didn’t see myself at the World Cup in November, but I knew that if I did what was needed, anything was possible. I hoped with all my heart, and it happened."
