Brazilian Senate President Reveals Moroccan Heritage During Diplomatic Meeting

During his meeting with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Davi Alcolumbre, President of the Brazilian Senate, announced that his ancestors are originally from Morocco.
The President of the Brazilian Senate wrote in a tweet: "I announced to the Minister that I have great respect for Moroccans, as my maternal great-grandparents were originally from Tangier, 110 years ago now."
According to the President, the meeting was an opportunity to "reaffirm the bonds of friendship and partnership between [the] two countries". Moreover, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Brazil is part of his diplomatic tour in South America, between June 11 and 14, 2019.
Several agreements were signed between Morocco and Brazil during this tour, particularly in the sectors of investment, defense, and mutual legal assistance.
The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araujo, stated that his country supports Morocco’s efforts for a political solution in the Western Sahara conflict.
The Moroccan Minister visited three other South American countries, Chile, the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, as part of the Kingdom’s diplomatic strategy to promote its international position on the Sahara issue.
