Maldives Backs Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for Western Sahara Dispute

Through the voice of Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives have reaffirmed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco.
The minister stated that his country supported "the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only political, pragmatic solution for the resolution of this regional dispute".
Abdulla Shahid, who during his visit had talks with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, also indicated that the Maldives were counting on the United Nations as the exclusive framework for the resolution of this conflict.
For his part, Nasser Bourita took advantage of this meeting to express to the Republic of the Maldives Morocco’s recognition for its clear and constant positions on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, in all international and regional forums.
