El Salvador Withdraws Recognition of Western Sahara, Boosting Morocco’s Diplomatic Stance

It is a great diplomatic victory that has been announced by Morocco, that of the end of the recognition of the "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic" by El Salvador. The announcement was made live by the new president Nayib Bukele.
"El Salvador in no way has recognized a Republic that does not exist, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) has no territory or people. It is a virtual republic. It recognized it for an ideological or other reason, which has completely isolated us from the Arab world and especially from the Kingdom of Morocco," the president said.
Returning to the cooperation agreements signed with Morocco, Bukele adds:
"I believe that, in addition to the tangible results of this agreement, we are opening up to genuine lasting diplomatic relations of bilateral and multilateral cooperation."
For his part, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, welcomed the decision taken by the President of the Republic and his government, which, according to him, paves the way for cooperation between the two countries in several areas.
"We have signed an agreement that will strengthen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as tourism, agriculture, water management, electricity and renewable energies. In all these areas, El Salvador and the Kingdom of Morocco will develop joint projects for the benefit of the populations of the two countries," said the Moroccan minister.
The two countries also announced the opening of an embassy in each of the two countries.
