Bayern’s Mazraoui Suffers Thigh Injury, Morocco World Cup Hopes in Doubt
Moroccan national team coach Walid Regragui may have to revise his list of players for the World Cup in Qatar. Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui has been injured, ten days before Morocco’s first match against Croatia.
Announced as a starter on Saturday against Schalke 04, Noussair Mazraoui, the right-back of Bayern Munich, finally remained on the bench. "Noussair Mazraoui is suffering from a slight muscle problem in the thigh. In order not to put him further at risk of injury, he will be on the bench tonight," Bayern Munich said in a statement.
This injury comes at a bad time, as the Moroccan defender does not want to jeopardize his chances of participating in the World Cup in Qatar with the Atlas Lions, who will play their first match on November 23 against Croatia at the Al Bayt stadium. After Croatia, Morocco will face Belgium and Canada, the other members of Group F.
Long sidelined by former coach Vahid Halilhodzic, Noussair Mazraoui was reintegrated into the team by the new coach, Walid Regragui. The Moroccan defender is keen to participate in this World Cup. He will undergo further examinations to determine the exact nature of his injury.
