Barcelona Prodigy Lamine Yamal Becomes Youngest La Liga Goalscorer at 16

Already the youngest player in FC Barcelona’s history, the youngest footballer to make his debut for the Spanish national team, the youngest starter in the Champions League, Lamine Yamal, the Spanish striker of Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean origin, continues to make history in football. On Sunday, he entered the history books of La Liga.
By scoring a goal against Granada on Sunday (2-2), Lamine Yamal became at 16 years and 87 days the youngest goalscorer in La Liga, dethroning Fabrice Olinga, who scored at 16 years and 98 days in 2012 with Celta Vigo. Iker Munian, Ansu Fati and Xisco Nadal complete the top 5 and are the only other footballers to have scored in the Spanish first division before their 17th birthday, reports the specialized site ESPN.
Yamal scored his goal at a crucial moment for his club. While Barça was trailing 2-0 on the pitch of Granada, the young football star reduced the gap in the 46th minute of play. Portuguese Joao Felix loses his balance as he strikes the ball. The 16-year-old player seizes the opportunity and scores his first goal in La Liga, before asking to be substituted in the 76th minute.
On Wednesday in Porto, Lamine became, at 16 years and 83 days, the youngest starter in the Champions League, breaking the record held by Nigerian Celestine Babayaro, who started at 16 years and 86 days with Anderlecht in 1994. Youri Tielemans (Anderlecht, 16 years and 148 days) and Ansu Fati (Barcelona, 16 years and 321 days) complete this ranking of young prodigies. The Spanish striker contributed to Barça’s victory over FC Porto (0-1).
