Morocco Storms into CHAN Quarter-Finals with Decisive 3-1 Victory over DR Congo

The Moroccan national team of local players qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after beating the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-1 on Sunday, on the last day of the group stage.
The Moroccan selection started the match well by opening the scoring in the 8th minute through Oussama Lamlioui. After this first goal, the team fell back, allowing the opponent to exert pressure that led to an equalizer. Jephté Kitambala scored for the DRC two minutes before the end of the first half, taking advantage of a defensive error by the Moroccan defense.
In the second half, the changes made by coach Tarik Sektoui proved decisive. The entry of substitute Khalid Baba energized the attack, and he won a penalty in the 70th minute. Captain Rabie Hrimat was responsible for converting it to give Morocco the lead again.
Ten minutes later, in the 80th minute, Oussama Lamlioui scored his second personal goal, making the score 3-1. In the final minutes, two other Moroccan goals were disallowed, the first for offside by Lamlioui and the second after the ball went out of bounds before a shot by Hrimat.
With this result, Morocco finished second in the group with a total of nine points. First place is occupied by Kenya, who accumulated ten points during this group stage. They are expected to face Tanzania at home.
