Auto Sales Slump: October Sees 4.7% Drop in Vehicle Purchases

Automobile sales recorded a sharp drop during the month of October. A total of only 13,171 vehicles were sold, down 4.7%.

Unlike other vehicle segments, the passenger car (PC) segment was less affected with some 11,546 units, a 2.52% drop in October. Since January 2020, sales have stood at 86,771 units, a 25.34% decline. As for utility vehicles, they experienced a 17.76% drop with a sales volume of 1,625 cars against 99,165 units, a 24.12% drop since January 2020.

In detail, Dacia takes the lead with 27,574 deliveries, a 20.82% drop. In second place is Renault, which posted 10,346 registrations, a 38.88% decline. It is followed by Hyundai, which totaled 6,579 sales, a 18.87% decline. As for Peugeot, it accumulated 5,620 units sold, a 34.64% drop. The fifth place is occupied by Volkswagen with 5,522 vehicles sold, a 25.42% decline. For its part, Citroën takes sixth place with 3,933 deliveries, a 39.86% decline.

The only brand that achieved good figures is Opel, ranked 7th with 3,903 vehicles, up 39.54%. As for the Fiat brand, it clings to 8th place with 3,261 units sold, down 30.02%. Ford is in 9th place with 2,422 deliveries and a 21.34% decline. Toyota is the last, with a sales volume of 2,312 units, down 39.25%.

In the luxury segment, Mercedes, BMW and Audi are experiencing a drop in sales figures. While Mercedes shows 1,575 cars, a 25.85% decline, BMW totals a volume of 1,460 units, a 29.64% drop against 1,282 cars for Audi, a 19.27% drop. In addition, Land Rover accumulates 955 registrations, a 23.9% drop, against a 45.6% jump for Porsche (182 cars).
