Morocco’s New Car Sales Plummet 19.7% in 2020 Amid Pandemic

The health crisis related to the coronavirus has severely impacted the automotive sector in Morocco. New car sales recorded a sharp decline in 2020.
With only 133,308 units sold in 2020, the market recorded "an exceptional regression" of 19.7% compared to 2019, according to the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
The passenger car (VP) segment, representing more than 90% of sales, fell by 21.1%, while the light commercial vehicle (VUL) segment saw a 7.9% decline. In December, 21,426 new vehicles were sold, a 2.28% drop compared to December 2019.
Dacia maintains its leadership position in sales with 36,548 registrations, down 17.36%, followed by Renault (14,235 sales), a 34.32% drop.
According to Adil Bennani, president of AIVAM, these significant sales declines are mainly explained by the health crisis related to the coronavirus.
