Morocco's New Car Sales Surge 11.8% in First Five Months of 2021

During the first five months of 2021, new car sales in Morocco reached 74,049 units, an increase of 11.8% compared to the first five months of 2019.

According to the monthly statistics of the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), new car sales jumped by 11.8% from January to May 2021. In total, 65,325 passenger vehicles (PV) were registered, an increase of 9.76% compared to the end of May 2019, and the number of light commercial vehicles (LCV) reached 8,724 units, an increase of 29.86%.

The Dacia brand once again tops the ranking of passenger cars, with a market share of nearly 29%, or 18,882 new registrations during the first five months of 2021. Renault comes in second place with 8,814 new units sold and a market share of 13.493%. Following it is Hyundai with 5,242 units and a market share of 8.024%, followed by Peugeot with 4,854 vehicles and a market share of 7.431%, according to AIVAM. For light commercial vehicles (LCV), the Chinese Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK) sold 1,738 units, a market share of 19.92% in the first five months of 2021. As for Ford, it recorded 1,012 registrations and a market share of 11.6%.

Regarding "Premium" car sales, Audi sold 1,544 units at the end of May 2021, a market share of 2.09%, followed by Mercedes with 1,471 units and a market share of 1.99% and BMW with 1,426 vehicles and a market share of 1.93%. It should be noted that for the month of May alone, new registrations reached 15,093 units, an increase of 13.6% compared to the same month in 2019. The breakdown by segment showed a 10.06% increase in PV to 13,140 units and a 44.99% increase in LCV to 1,953 units, AIVAM specified.
