Peugeot Recall Crisis: Moroccan-Made Cars Face Fire Risk in Europe

The French manufacturer Peugeot should carry out a major recall campaign concerning vehicles manufactured in Morocco and marketed in the European market. But what is the issue and which cars are affected?
According to the European alert SR/02876/25, published on Wednesday, August 13 by the European Commission under the Safety Gate system, a recall should be carried out on several models of the Peugeot brand, produced in Morocco and marketed in the European market. The vehicles concerned are sedans and SUVs from the 208 and 2008 ranges, manufactured between June 26, 2023 and April 8, 2025. But then, what is the problem that has been identified?
These vehicles have a fuel tank sealing defect that could cause leaks. "In the event of a leak, the spilled fuel can ignite on contact with high-temperature components or following sparks," explains the Commission. "The product does not meet the provisions of the European regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, as well as of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles," the same source specifies.
These issues have prompted the German authorities, who were behind the notification, to order the recall of passenger cars assembled at the brand’s Moroccan plant and exported to the European Union to end users. Similar measures have been applied in Croatia and Luxembourg. MXH is the internal recall code communicated by the manufacturer.
