Morocco’s Auto Sales Slump Continues: 6% Drop in First Quarter

The slowdown observed at the beginning of the year in car sales continues. At the end of March, sales stood at 41,399 units, down 6.26% compared to the same period last year.
According to statistics from the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), 36,977 passenger cars were sold in March, a decrease of 5.5%. The same trend was observed on the light commercial vehicle side, where sales also fell by -12.16% with 4,422 units sold.
Arriving at the top of the brands, "Dacia" accounts for 26.7% of the market share, with 9,872 new registrations at the end of March, followed by Renault which sold 5,606 new units (market share of 15.16%), Hyundai (4,009 units and 10.84% market share) and Peugeot (2,998 vehicles and 8.11% market share).
Regarding light commercial vehicles (LCVs), Renault is in the lead with 6,845% to 1,009 units, i.e. 22.82%, while DFSK saw its sales decline by 40.24% to 646 units (14.61% market share), notes the AIVAM, noting that Ford’s sales increased by 8.45% to 603 units (13.64% market share).
As for "premium" cars, Audi sold 979 units at the end of last March, i.e. a market share of 2.65%, ahead of Mercedes (714 units and a share of 1.93%) and BMW (651 vehicles and a share of 1.76%). In addition, the AIVAM reports that Porsche’s sales fell by 8.33% to 99 vehicles, and those of Jaguar by 3.33% (29 units).
