Morocco’s Auto Sales Plummet 20% in 2023, Dacia Leads Declining Market

The automotive sector experienced a disastrous end of the year with sales down nearly 20%, for a total volume of 133,315 vehicles. In the top 3 of sales are Dacia, Renault and Hyundai.
The latest sales campaigns launched by dealers have not been able to straighten the bar in the automotive sector during the month of December. Only 21,426 vehicles were sold, a decrease of 2.28%. During this period, few brands were able to achieve growth by the end of 2020. In total, 116,983 passenger cars were delivered, resulting in a decline of 21.06% against 16,332 light commercial vehicles (LCV), or 7.88%.
Dacia holds the leading position with 36,458 sales, a drop of 17.36%. Following it, Renault shows 14,235 registrations, a decline of 34.32% but regains nearly 49% market share thanks to its two brands. In third place is Hyundai, which sold 8,441 cars, a decrease of 15.05%. Then come Peugeot and Volkswagen, which totaled 7,650 deliveries (-29.28%) and 7,227 (-25.25%) respectively.
In sixth place, we find the Opel brand, which stands out with a growth of 46.59% for 5,679 registrations. The seventh place is occupied by Citroën, which has 5,378 deliveries, a decrease of 31.44%. As for Fiat, it is positioned in eighth place with a volume of 4,051 cars sold, a drop of 30.99%. Regarding Ford, it is ranked ninth with 3,613 vehicles sold, down 9.40%. As for the tenth place, it goes to Nissan with 3,175 deliveries and a drop of 30.22%.
Moreover, Sopriam, the exclusive importer of the Peugeot, Citroën and DS brands, secures a market share of 16.44%. In the luxury segment, we find Mercedes with 2,163 registrations, a decline of 23.54%, followed by BMW with 2,022 deliveries (-22.20%). We then find the Audi brand, which sold 1,718 vehicles, a drop of 21.73%. On the LCV side, DFSK records growth with the DFSK brand, which has 3,256 vehicles sold, an increase of 66.46%. It is followed by Renault with 2,325 registrations, a decline of 9.43%. Ford announces 1,859 units (-28.77%). Dacia and Mitsubishi are respectively in 4th and 5th place with 1,629 vehicles (-10.25%) and 1,387 registrations (-20.20%) respectively.
