Arrested on Tuesday, Badr Hari is already free: “I'm back”

Three days after his arrest in Amsterdam, Badr Hari was released under conditions. The Moroccan kickboxer is accused of making threats, coercion and doxing. Having returned to his family, he has just spoken at length.

Badr Hari appeared before the investigating judge on Friday. The judge suspended his pretrial detention while imposing conditions that have not been made public.

The court now refers to suspicions of threats, coercion and doxing, meaning the disclosure of personal data. When he was arrested on Tuesday, police had initially spoken of threats and insults.

“The evidence concerning most of the alleged acts was not accepted by the judge,” says his lawyer, Cem Polat. This statement comes from the defense. The court only confirmed that the 41-year-old Moroccan could await the continuation of the proceedings outside custody under conditions.

Badr Hari contests the accusations. His lawyer maintains that he is not accused of any physical violence in this new case.

“My children come first”

After announcing his return on Instagram following “80 hours of intermittent fasting,” Badr Hari published a more detailed statement that evening. “I returned home today and I am happy to be reunited with my family,” he wrote.

The former champion says that he trusted the process from the outset, made himself available to the authorities and fully cooperated so that the facts could be clarified. He says he is “completely confident” in his position.

Badr Hari regrets that a private family matter has taken on such proportions and, in his view, become a public spectacle. Since his divorce, he acknowledges, sometimes deep disagreements have opposed him and his former partner over their children’s upbringing.

“Being a father also means taking responsibility and speaking up when you sincerely believe that your children’s well-being, safety or education are at stake,” he continued on his Instagram account. He promised to remain cautious and respectful when discussing his family, before concluding: “My children come first. Always.”
