Kickboxer Badr Hari Released Pending Trial for Alleged Domestic Violence

Arrested on Sunday and placed in pre-trial detention for assaulting his ex-wife in Amsterdam, the Moroccan-origin kickboxer Badr Hari was released on Wednesday.
Badr Hari was arrested on Sunday after assaulting his ex-wife and mother of his five children at his home. Witnesses are said to have filmed the scene. His arrest follows a complaint filed by the ex-wife who would be a victim of repeated violence from the kickboxer.
Placed in pre-trial detention, he was presented this Wednesday before the investigating judge who ordered his release under conditions, while the public prosecutor’s office had requested his continued pre-trial detention. A "carefully considered" decision, according to Cem Polat, Badr Hari’s lawyer.
This is not the first time the former kickboxer has been prosecuted for assault. Badri Hari has already been convicted of violently assaulting businessman Koen Everink during the Sensation White event at the Amsterdam Arena. He would also be involved in a fight in an Amsterdam nightclub.
The kickboxer had been acquitted of the alleged assault on his former partner. The latter had sent a text message to a friend informing him that "Badr has ravaged everything. He lost control. I have bruises everywhere. It will take a while before I can put on a bikini again. I have a concussion."
